‘A breath of sea air’ is the best way to describe the paintings of Nick Watton inspired by the landscape in which he was raised. The rugged coastline and the ever changing moods of the sea of Cornwall brought to life in vibrant and evocative images. These paintings are straight from the heart.
Nick Watton was brought up in rural Cornwall. He showed early artistist talent which would eventually lead him to graduate with distinction from Falmouth College of Art and Design in 1990. Following this Nick Watton embarked on a career as a freelance illustrator working in the fields of advertising and publishing, working for a wide range of companies and publishers.
At the moment Nick Watton lives and works in a small village on the outskirts of Bath, with his studio overlooking the river Cam and fields beyond. However Cornwall and the sea still remains one of his main inspirations and he returns as often as possible to paint and draw on location. Another inspiration is traditional working boats and the two dovetail together to produce some evocative images. Nick Watton's paintings reflect the wild and romantic elements of the world around us, in rich colours and images.
